As lifelong Floridians, our family knows a thing or two about the sun – sunshine, sun showers, sunblock, and sunburns. For years, Mrs. Buena Vista Sun (a medical esthetician for over 15 years) has banged the drum on both the benefits of the sun as well as the detrimental effects of overexposure. While I have always been the “let’s get the first summer burn out of the way to make way for the stronger skin” kind-of-guy, the importance of protecting my skin from the sun’s harmful rays really became apparent with the birth of our two daughters. For years, I struggled with sprays, creams, lotions, and potions – the application, the re-application, and the burning eyes. Finally, after much consideration, and deliberation, I came around to my wife’s number one form of sun protection – a UPF 50 sun shirt and hat. No fuss, no muss – I found that it was as simple as putting on a t-shirt and hat, because that is exactly what they are. Our two girls have basically lived in these sun shirts as they are incredible alternatives to trying to slather or spray sunblock (with unknown ingredients, chemicals and aerosols) all over their squirmy little toddler selves.

Since becoming passholders for the happiest place in the world several years ago, we would wear our sun shirts all day – from rope-dropping in the morning to a midday jump in the pool, and back to the park for session #2 all the way through fireworks. The problem was that there were no park-friendly sun shirts on the market. Until now, we were stuck with designs that were either plain and boring or just branded and boring. There were no sun shirts that captured the magic we experienced in any of the four parks.
